Tea has been ingrained in Chinese culture and history for at least four thousand years, but tea craze is currently sweeping the western world. While the west has been drinking tea regularly for at least a few centuries, it is only relatively recently that scientists have discovered what the Chinese have known for millenniums: tea offers many beneficial properties and can help boost the overall state of health. Consequently, it has become the supplemental recommendation of choice for the health fanatic, those suffering from cardiovascular problems and even the every day person who simply needs their caffeine and would like a healthier vehicle for it than coffee. As a result, the market for tea is considerably large now and still growing.
There are many companies that offer the opportunity to buy tea in bulk at reduced prices for retail purposes. Most of them can be found online which reduces travel expenses and makes it easier to set everything up. Before deciding to import and distribute, however, there are many things to take into consideration.
Assuming a market exists and that it is financially viable to invest in tea, one must first and foremost determine which kind. There are four main types of teas each with their own particularities. Beyond that, the best of each kind typically comes from a different geographic location. Determining what type and quality of tea to import, thus, becomes the immediate concern. Oolong tea is currently en vogue as THE weight loss supplement in the market. It has been heavily publicized and basically advertises itself. It might be worth investing in as the market is on the rise. The most highly regarded oolong teas tend to come from the Wuyi (incidentally the name of a popular new brand) Mountains in China but the average consumer won't be able to tell the difference and will most likely opt for the cheapest available. Green tea, on the other hand, is by far the most consumed tea in the world. It is as close to a blue chip investment as there is in the tea market. Because it is so widely consumed, it would be wise to obtain a wide selection in bulk to cater to everyone from the new drinker to the everyday consumer to the tea aficionado. White tea and black tea are much more rarely consumed than the above two and found mostly in restaurants, Asian markets or specialty stores. Consequently, those who enjoy it are typically tea connoisseurs who are looking for the high quality.
Another important thing to consider is whether the tea will be loose leaf or bagged. Loose leaf tea, preferred by tea aficionados because it provides a purer flavor and more control during the brewing process, is more difficult to pack successfully while still maintaining the quality of the leaves. Thus, it tends to be more expensive. Bagged tea, on the other hand, is cheaper and much more readily available which makes it the logical choice depending on the market.
As with any other attempt to buy in bulk, the investor should do his or her due diligence to make sure the companies that advertise as bulk distributors are authentic and to minimize the risk of being scammed. He should also be knowledgeable in every step of the potential transaction from knowing how the tea is packaged to when it will arrive and how much he will have to pay in taxes for the product. It is the only way to make sure an investment makes financial sense and is profitable in the short and long term.
