Tea is one of the oldest drinks in the world. Even today, it is enjoyed by many different cultures across the world. One of the biggest advantages of a drink like tea is that it is greatly adaptable to a variety of flavors. If you search online, you will literally find hundreds and hundreds of flavors for tea. No matter what your taste and preference is, there is undoubtedly a perfect cup of tea waiting for you.
There are two main types of flavored tea available today, those that made from green and those that are made from black tea. Green tea has a variety of different flavors that mostly consists of fruits and spices. The green tea leaves are usually Chinese or Japanese in origin and the preparation for the tea remains the same.
The tea leaves would have to be steeped in the right temperature and water and for the right duration of time, depending on their quality. Most high quality tea leaves are steeped two or three times. Also, it is good to remember that higher the quality of tea leaves, cooler is the temperature required as well as shorter durations of time for steeping. These flavored green teas are a great and refreshing way to start a tea drinking habit.
Flavored black tea, on the other hand, is most commonly infused with a large variety of flavors. Flavors may be natural or even exotic. Most flavored black tea is made from tea leaves from Ceylon. The tea that comes from Ceylon has a marked advantage of already being endowed with a citrus flavor. This makes combining it with flavors like vanilla or apple gives it an extra zing that would otherwise not be present.
Apart from green and black teas, which are the most popular types of flavored teas, it is also possible to get white tea and oolong tea in a few select flavors. White tea is usually infused with natural flavors like pear, peach, blueberry or even jasmine flowers. Oolong tea, on the other hand, is usually flavored with just jasmine flavors, although there may be newer varieties available now. These are not the most common varieties of flavored tea and may be hard to find.
It is important to choose your flavored tea with care. Be wary of manufacturers who use the lowest grade of tea, or even 'expired' old tea for making flavored teas. These old and low quality teas can be dyed for better appearance and flavored with all artificial flavors and then neatly packaged to be sold as premium flavored teas. Always choose naturally flavored teas. There ought to be actual pieces of nuts, spices, or flowers among the tea leaves. The flavor and aroma should be naturally created and not with the help of artificial additives.
Also, avoid using tea bags for flavored teas. Flavored teas should be made with the process of steeping tea leaves in hot water for the best possible flavor. Tea bags are also most likely to be using artificial additives for flavor.
