Gourmet Tea

Tea, such as any other item consumed by a large segment of the population, can have various different qualities. The association of the term gourmet with tea has been made to denote tea of very high quality (and often times, of equally high price compared to regular tea). Gourmet tea will usually come from selected regions, have particular harvest dates, which, more often than not will be the most appropriate for that particular kind of tea, and will come in different varieties. Gourmet tea is the most luxurious tea on the market, and is oriented for a niche of customers educated as to the properties and subtleties of taste, quality and effects of a certain type of tea.

Gourmet tea can usually be found at specialized tea stores or at gourmet food stores, either locally or online. A very common term in the world of gourmet tea is single estate tea. Single estate tea is the kind of tea grown on a particular plantation, which carries all the natural properties of tea from that region, carrying the imprint of the weather, the climate and the soil in its unique and strong flavor. The difference between single estate tea and regular tea is that regular tea will generally be packaged in big packaging factories, where tea from various growers is gathered, mixed and processed. The problem with the mixing of the tea is that it will generally lose its personality, and, while retaining the general characteristics of tea, it will not retain the particular aroma that makes each tea unique. Not to mention the fact that such mixed teas will usually be of a lesser quality than single estate tea. Single estate tea, like wine, might vary from crop to crop and year to year, depending on various external factors, but will this will not stop it from preserving its attributes and its uniqueness.

Of course, gourmet tea is not limited to single estate tea. Blends of various high quality teas can often be found in gourmet stores, and in fact, certain teas are far more savory if drank as a mix of teas that complement each other and enhance key notes from the other's palette. Gourmet tea consists of generally high quality tea, but also of all sorts of tea rarities that can truly be enjoyed by tea lovers. There's an almost mystic, precious quality to tea, something probably related to its history, and that element is clearly substantiated by the idea of gourmet tea.

Gourmet teas can often be more expensive than regular tea, with prices for the highest quality teas being quite outstanding, but the vast majority of gourmet teas are not unaffordable. Certainly, quality usually will come at a certain price, but when one considers the fact that an average sized pack of tea can be enjoyed for a few weeks, and when considering the refined luxury and delight a gourmet tea can bring, the choice to buy such a tea is no longer as difficult as it might seem.
